Program Overview
The Florence Allison Summer Arts Program is a program for children entering grades one through six. It is part of the Marlington Local School System in Alliance, OH. Children attend hour long sessions every day for two weeks taught by highly qualified instructors in small class settings.
Classes include: Visual Art, African Drumming, Theater, Pottery, Guitar, Beginning Violin, Dance, Sculpture, English Handbell, Photography, Storytelling with Puppets and Comics Creation. Instructors came from Canton, North Canton, Chagrin Falls, Alliance, Louisville and Lisbon to teach the classes.
The purpose of the arts program is to introduce area children to arts instruction they otherwise might not have. Public schools have great difficulty providing arts education to students, especially with the increased demands of “No Child Left Behind” which stresses frequent standardized testing for all children. The failure of school levies and cuts to public education have forced many schools to reduce or completely eliminate art, drama and music programs.
We offer some alternatives to families as they nurture their children and try to provide them with a well rounded education.
