Summer Arts Camp

As a music teacher for 31 years, I’ve often witnessed the joys of children exploring their own abilities in my class.  I’ve watched them grow in confidence and poise as they learned to sing, dance and play instruments in classroom and performance settings.  I’ve also seen them transfer that confidence and creativity to other areas of their lives.

Children sometimes struggle when asked to draw or dance something in response to music. I’ve heard them say, “I can’t!”  I wanted to give them an opportunity to explore various art forms and learn new skills from real artists and arts educators in small group settings. I wanted them to learn that expression isn’t limited to reading, writing and arithmetic.  Children blossom and grow through the arts, and I wanted diverse arts education to be available to all children in our district.

My life’s been greatly enriched by the arts.  But how would my life have changed if I’d never been introduced to music?  I want our students to be exposed to as much art as possible when they’re young.

This arts program has been a dream come true for  me.  I walk from classroom to classroom and see the elation on the faces of children as they sculpt, draw, dance and play instruments.  My vision of happy children in shorts standing at easels outside has been realized.  I hope that this will be a legacy for me and a tribute to Mrs. Allison for many years to come!

WELCOME!
